Research reveals evidence of ‘thunderstorm asthma’ in Canberra
Research by The Australian National University (ANU) into pollen in Canberra has provided the first evidence that the region is prone to a phenomenon known as 'thunderstorm asthma'.
The findings come from research collected through the Canberra Pollen app, which begins its second year of delivering daily counts and forecasts of pollen levels to users from 1 October.....

Background: Acute severe asthma or status asthmaticus refers to an episode of bronchoconstriction that is unresponsive to standard management. Patients with acute severe asthma will present with significant respiratory distress and it is critical to rapidly treat them to avoid significant morbidity and mortality. Patients will present with tachypnea, retractions, diaphoresis, ability to only speak 1-2 words at a time, abdominal breathing, cold extremeties. and wheezing (although the most severe may have a “quiet chest” indicating the absence of any significant air entry).....

Probiotic friendly bacteria may play role in stopping asthma

Before you go out and buy a year's supply of probiotic yoghurt drinks, it's worth noting a few points that burst the hype bubble.
The news is based on research that found that the lack of some types of bacteria in babies' guts affected their later chances of asthma. However, this was only the case for three-month-olds so the effect, if it exists, is likely to be time-limited.....
