Gut bacteria may protect children from asthma, study says
Four types of gut bacteria may prevent children from developing asthma if they acquire the microorganisms before the third month of life, a study published by the journal Science Translational Medicine said.
Research conducted at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, may lead to the development of probiotic treatments for infants, and to a protocol to predict which babies are at risk of ending up with asthma.....

Ohio bill would let schools, camps stock asthma inhalers
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio bill would let schools and camps keep a supply of asthma inhalers not prescribed to specific patients in case of emergencies.
The measure passed the state Senate on a unanimous vote Wednesday. The House also has passed the bill but would have to sign off on the Senate’s technical changes before the legislation goes to the governor.....

Early microbiome composition influences later asthma risk in children
By sampling the gut microbiome early in life, researchers have shown that four types of commensal microbes, and the metabolites those microbes produced, were present at lower levels in children at high risk of developing asthma when those children were 3 months old.
By the time the high-risk cohort had turned 1, the microbiome had caught up with that of normal-risk children. The risk of developing asthma, however, appeared to remain elevated.....
