Family of Brooklyn girl who died of asthma attack wins fight to require NYPD to get CPR training

City police officers will now have to undergo CPR training every two years.
It's the byproduct of a new law named for 11-year-old Briana Ojeda, which was signed by the governor yesterday.
The Brooklyn girl died after an asthma attack which began at a playground back in 2010.
On the way to the hospital, her mother was stopped by an officer who couldn't perform CPR.....

Asthma advocate Lenore Miller remembers her son Ryan Tomkins

Researchers explore complex relationship between weight and asthma in children

Researchers at Aston University and clinicians at Birmingham Children's Hospital are exploring how children living with asthma can be supported to maintain a healthy weight.
Children and teenagers with the chronic condition are much more likely to be overweight than their counterparts, and if they are clinically obese their risk of having severe asthma is three times higher.
Now a £70,000 jointly funded project is seeing Dr. Claire Farrow, Dr. Gemma Heath and Professor Helen Pattison from the university working with the hospital's respiratory team to investigate the complex relationship between weight and asthma in children - and potentially help young patients better manage their symptoms and improve their health.....

OVER 9,100 ASTHMATIC CHILDREN IN KILDARE

As over 9,100 asthmatic children return to school in Kildare, the Asthma Society has warned that every school should have an asthma inhaler in their first aid kit in case of an emergency.
However, two years after a new scheme was put in place by then Minister for Health Leo Varadkar TD not a single school has received an emergency asthma inhaler under it.
This, combined with some teachers’ reluctance to administer asthma medication, is putting children’s lives at risk.....
