A Lancaster teacher has set up a petition to exempt asthma sufferers from paying prescription charges.
Yasmin Selant’s petition to end prescription charges on inhalers has received more than 2,000 signatures.

Obese women are nearly twice as likely as women of normal weight to have asthma, according to a government study released Wednesday.

Antifungals May Relieve Asthma, Chronic Sinusitis
LOS ANGELES — Antifungal therapy relieves symptoms in patients with severe asthma, chronic sinusitis, or both whose sputum tests positive for fungal cultures, new research shows.
The approach even worked in patients who weren't particularly sensitive or allergic to fungi, said Evan Li, MD, a resident at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.....

If you treat a parent’s depression, will their child’s asthma improve?
Studies have shown that children with asthma are at higher risk for depression. Research also has shown an association between a parent or caregiver’s depression and worsening symptoms in an asthmatic child.
Now researchers at UB and the University of Texas, Dallas are exploring this connection further: They are beginning a National Institutes of Health (NIH) study to determine whether treating a depressed caregiver will improve the child’s asthma.....

Could farm dust be key to developing a vaccine against asthma?
Children who grow up on farms have a far lower risk of developing asthma and other respiratory allergies, but until recently the underlying mechanism was a mystery.
