Childhood asthma linked to fructose intake
Consuming large amounts of fructose during the second trimester of pregnancy and at 2 years of age is associated with a significantly increased risk of asthma in childhood, a new study has found.
The preliminary findings, presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology last month, examined 1111 mother-child pairs from a longitudinal prebirth cohort, Project Viva. Researchers used food-frequency questionnaires to estimate the mothers’ fructose intake from food and beverages during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy and their children’s intake at 2 years.....
