HOUSTON -- A child's risk of asthma increased significantly with maternal fructose intake during pregnancy, data from a longitudinal cohort study showed.
The odds ratio for asthma in mid-childhood increased 22% for children whose mothers consumed large quantities of fructose during the second trimester of pregnancy. A similar asthma association existed for the child's fructose consumption at 2 years of age.....

Asthma won’t stop Matthew from climbing 40 flights
Seven-year-old Matthew Sinzinger of Delaware has asthma – but he is not going to let that stop him from climbing 40 flights of stairs in Columbus’ Rhodes State Office Tower.
Matthew will be climbing as part of the fifth annual American Lung Association’s Fight for Air Climb, which will occur on Saturday, March 7. The race is a timed event which is open to individual athletes and teams.....

The study, published in the Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the scientific publication of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI), followed 298 mother-child pairs through the child's third year of life. The study found that 22 percent of the 103 children born to mothers who took antibiotics during pregnancy were diagnosed with asthma by age 3. In contrast, only 11 percent of the children born to mothers who didn't take antibiotics prenatally were similarly diagnosed.....
