Cough could be a symptom of asthma in children

After reading the last piece I wrote on cough in adults, a follower of this column mailed a message to me.
She said, “I have a 10 year-old child, who is always having constant cold (catarrh, cough and blocked nostrils). We were referred to a Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic where a doctor told us he had a swollen adenoid.
“He was placed on antibiotics to shrink it. But he started wheezing and we returned to the hospital. This time, he was diagnosed with asthma.....

Valley MP Jake Berry has confirmed he was unable to vote to trigger Article 50 due to a ‘serious’ asthma attack.
The Rossendale MP insisted he DID NOT choose to abstain from the vote which would begin the process of leaving the European Union, and that his commitment to Brexit had not changed.

Insomnia triples the risk of asthma, say scientists

Sleepless nights can bring on asthma in adulthood - more than trebling the risk among chronic insomniacs, according to new research.
And those who struggle to nod off most nights are more than twice as likely to develop the potentially fatal lung condition.
The risk rises by two-thirds among those who regularly have difficulty falling asleep, according to the study of almost 18,000 adults.
Insomnia is on the rise in the UK with up to half of Britons enduring it at some time - making them among the most sleep deprived people in the world.....

CLEVELAND: Kidney stones are four-times more likely to occur in children with asthma than children without asthma, according to a new Cleveland Clinic study published online in the medical journal, PLOS ONE.

'Exceptional response' to thunderstorm asthma saved lives: Inspector-General

Emergency services faced with an unprecedented health crisis they could not have understood moved swiftly to curb the fallout from last year's thunderstorm asthma event that claimed nine lives, a review has found.
Tony Pearce, the Inspector-General for Emergency Services, said more lives could have been lost had it not been for the response of the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority, Ambulance Victoria, the Health Department and hospitals.....

'Clearly preventable': Teen girl lived on nuggets and sausages before fatal asthma attack

A "morbidly obese" girl, who died from an asthma attack following parental neglect, begged authorities to have her "putrid", rodent-infested home cleaned months before her death.

Ashlee Doesn’t Just Cope with Her Asthma, She Controls It

As an infant, Ashlee was constantly in the hospital. Her symptoms were mimicking a seizure, and doctors struggled to figure out what was causing it. She was eventually diagnosed with asthma and acid reflux disease. The combination of the two illnesses was causing her seizure like symptoms.
