With World Asthma Day being observed on May 2, experts have stressed on the importance of lung check-up. Pulmonologist Dr Nitin Abhyankar highlighted that asthma is a long-term disease that has no cure, but can be controlled through inhalers.
“There are many patients who stop using inhalers once they feel better. This can be dangerous and affect their breathing… Patients should consult their doctor before taking any step and get necessary tests done to keep their lungs healthy and fit,” Abhyankar said.....

Cipla plea in High Court against change in price of asthma drugs
Cipla claimed that the price of the powdered form of its three asthma drugs were capped without following the proper procedure prescribed under the Drug Price Control Order 2013.
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court today sought the Centre's response on a plea by pharma major Cipla against a notification capping the prices of the powdered form of its three asthma drugs.
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva issued notice to the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers and the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) and sought their replies by May 12, the next date of hearing.....

How will we avert asthma deaths without definitive diagnostics?
Our governments have committed to reduce premature deaths due to non-communicable diseases (including asthma) by one-third by 2030 (Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs). The National Health Policy 2017 of India also promises to "reduce premature mortality from cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes or chronic respiratory diseases by 25% by 2025".....
