Diamond Conway went to Adventureland near Des Moines with her family before the July 4 holiday, just like she does every summer.
The 15-year-old junior at Burke High School rode the roller coasters. Just like she does every summer.
And afterwards she and her family retired to their hotel. Just like they do every summer.
But at the hotel things went wrong after Diamond, her younger sister and her mom went for a swim in the hotel’s pool and spent some time in the hot tub.....

High Sugar Intake While Pregnant May Increase Child’s Risk of Developing Allergic Asthma, Study Finds

Women who consume a large amount of sugar when they’re pregnant may find their children at an increased risk for allergy and allergic asthma, according to researchers from Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).
The study, titled “Maternal intake of sugar during pregnancy and childhood respiratory and atopic outcomes,” was published in the European Respiratory Journal.
Previous research supports a link between a high intake of beverages containing large amounts of sugar and asthma in children. However, the association between maternal sugar intake during pregnancy and allergy and asthma in their children had not been studied in-depth.....

‘Asthma attack’ siblings beaten so badly their organs failed

The toddler siblings who died minutes apart in The Bronx early Sunday were beaten so badly that their organs failed and they suffered internal bleeding, NYPD ­officials said Wednesday.
“These two children were beaten about the body and because of that, they had organ failure and they bled to death — both children,” Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said of Olivia Gee, 2, and her brother, Micah, 3.
The only two people police are interested in questioning are mom Jade Spencer, 31, and her boyfriend, Novell Jordan, 31, who is not the children’s father, Boyce said.....
