Wednesday is a good day for Bey. The air is fresh, and the temperature is in the mid-80s. This mild weather dictates whether Bey and the kids can leave her house at all during the day.
Bey is one of the 85,000 people in Jefferson County with asthma. She blames it on the smoking she did when she was younger, but there are other environmental factors that contribute to her asthma she can’t control.....

New study could help those with asthma in Kentuckiana
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Whether you're one of the 89,000 people in the Metro battling asthma or 13.7% of adults in Indiana, researchers say it's important for you to know the quality of air.
AIR Louisville, along with Metro Government and other organizations just finished a two-year study using these smart asthma and COPD inhalers that can connect to your phone, using 1,147 Kentuckiana residents.
“We saw a 74 percent reduction in usage and that's just from people learning so by having this additional information about air quality and knowing, then maybe today I shouldn't go for that bike ride at lunchtime. I have asthma. I know that I'm vulnerable,” Grace Simrall, Chief of Civic Innovation, said.....

Asthma Testing Tool Available At Mercy Clinic
Diagnosing asthma is often made by looking at a patient’s medical history, conducting a physical exam and running tests (peak flow and spirometry) for lung function.
A newer tool that is gaining popularity when the diagnosis of asthma is still uncertain is called fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO).
Jeremy Katcher, MD, with Mercy Clinic Allergy, Asthma and Immunology in Washington, is now using FeNO testing in his office for appropriate patients.....
