I was at a friend’s graduation party when a family friend of hers who I had never met before asked me if I had been a “sheltered child.” I assumed he meant had I grown up with parents with conservative ideals so I said yes. “Ha!” he yelled, “That’s why you haveasthma. Fighting asthma with farm dust

In an Amish farm community in Indiana, the childhood asthma rate is 5 percent.
In a community of genetically similar farmers in North Dakota, the rate is 15 percent.
That has University of Arizona researchers hopeful that they can create drugs that will prevent and treat the disease by studying the dust that collects in the homes and barns of those farms.....

Air pollution is a direct cause of asthma, research has revealed.
Toxins in the atmosphere also affect children’s memory and concentration, as well as triggering heart attacks in adults.
Professor John Grigg, of London’s Queen Mary College, said pollution can change cells in lungs, which can lead to allergic reactions that cause asthma.....
