Nearly 25 million Americans -- about 8 percent of the population -- have asthma.  It effects more than one million Ohioans.
While people suffering from asthma may not be aware of it, a Cleveland researcher has discovered, there's a potentially protective aspect of the disease.

Boy dies after suffering asthma attack during Harvey flooding

He was less than a week away from his ninth birthday — and as excited as any little boy would be.
But Noah Delgado of Houston never got to celebrate his big day Sunday: He was stricken by an asthma attack in the middle of Tropical Storm Harvey — and died when he couldn’t get treatment fast enough.
