Report Shows 750,000 Asthma Attacks Will Be Caused by the Oil and Gas Industry by 2025
New analysis from the Clean Air Task Force shows that by 2025 America’s children will experience 750,000 asthma attacks each summer that will be directly attributable to the oil and gas industry.
The report, Gasping for Breath, is the first to quantify the effects of smog caused by oil and gas production and distribution. The authors used industry data submitted to the EPA’s National Emissions Inventory, particularly looking at methane and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can interact to create smog. This chemical reaction is facilitated by ultraviolet rays and heat?—?which is why smog is a bigger problem in the summer than the winter.....

BACK-to-school can be exciting and stressful in equal measure, but for the one in five children in Ireland with asthma, the fear factor can rise higher.
Returning to the classroom can expose children to asthma-exacerbating triggers, which, according to the Asthma Society of Ireland, leads to frightening visits to emergency department and even hospital stays.

Food allergies in children linked to high risk of asthma, rhinitis
A recent study published in BMC Pediatrics observed the trends of childhood allergic conditions and found higher rates of asthma, lower rates of eczema, and an association between food allergies and the development of respiratory allergies compared with previous reports.
David A. Hill, MD, PhD, from the Department of Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and colleagues used a care network of 1,050,061 urban and suburban children to examine the rates of childhood allergic conditions using data from healthcare provider-based diagnoses.....
