Asthma Predisposition High Among Children With Food Allergies

Taking advantage of network data on over a million children, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) system was recently able to conduct a large, informative study on the most common chronic health afflictions that impact children.
From the wide swath of data, researchers assembled a closed-birth cohort of nearly 30,000 children, observed continually for their first 5 years of life, and a larger cross-sectional cohort of over 300,000, all observed for at least a year. The study claims to be “one of the largest primary care cohorts ever assembled to describe epidemiologic characteristics of healthcare provider-diagnosed eczema, asthma, allergic rhinitis, and food allergy”.....

Late-onset asthma may increase risk for CV events

Adults with late-onset asthma were 57% more likely to experience a CV event compared with those without asthma, researchers reported in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
Using the Wisconsin Sleep Cohort, researchers evaluated 1,269 participants who were free of CVD at baseline and were followed for a mean of 14 years for CV events including angina, cardiac revascularization, CV death, HF and stroke. The mean age of the cohort was 47 years.....

Parents urged to get children checked for asthma as September sees 200% increase in attacks

For almost 6,000 children in Cavan and Monaghan who suffer from asthma, back to school time may be difficult.
That’s according to figures by the Asthma Society who say that September usually sees a spike in hospitalisations as children get anxious about going back to school.....
