Racism linked to Asthma risk for Black women

(Special to the Trice Edney News Wire from NorthStar-NewsToday.com) — African-American women who have frequent experiences with racism are at greater risk of developing asthma as adults, according to a study published in 2013.
A new study published online in the journal Chest, followed 38,142 African-American women, all of whom are participants in the Black Women’s Health Study (BWHS) between 1997 and 2011. The women completed health questionnaires every two years.....

Joliet hospital offers new procedure to help control severe asthma

JOLIET – Living with severe asthma has been likened to trying to go about daily activities while breathing through a narrow paper straw. The condition can be incapacitating at times, deadly at others.
Debbie Durham of Plainfield knows only too well what it’s like to go through life with asthma.

Parents of mother who died in asthma attack launch memorial fund

The parents of a woman who died of an asthma attack while she was in her flat with her three-year-old son are to launch a tribute fund to support research into the condition.
Lydia Macdonald, 27, died on June 10 at her home in Perth.
She was alone with her young son Mason Martin when the fatal attack occurred.....
